The global mixed martial arts community paid tribute to Bahraini prince Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on his 30th birthday on September 23, 2019. He is the founder of the Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation.

It all started with a dream. A vision of how his beloved sport of mixed martial arts could give more, to the athletes, to the fans and to everyone associated with it. Born on September 23, 1988 to Bahraini ruler King Hamad and Sheia bint Hassan Al Khrayyesh Al Ajmi of Kuwait, Al Khalifa has transformed into one of the iconic figures of MMA by thrusting his knowledge, passion, and resources into the sport.

As a passionate sportsman, it was no surprise that Al Khalifa followed the endeavors of young Hamza “The Pride of Bahrain” Kooheji. As the first ever Bahraini fighter, the latter became a central figure as he tore through the opposition in the local circuit, representing the Kingdom and making sure that the flag of Bahrain was always at the highest post.

During this time, Al Khalifa decided to take the matter into his own hands in all levels with the goal of helping the development of mixed martial arts. His first step was to establish an MMA team, that would mix top international fighters, professional athletes in search of opportunities to shine, and young men trying to make it in the amateur scene.

It was that arrangement that allowed KHK MMA to quickly blossom into one of the top MMA teams in the world. The team had UFC fighters Khabib Nurmagomedov and Frankie Edgar as well as Kooheji and his fellow Brave CF fighters Eldar Eldarov and Jose Torres.

This core represented all levels of athletes that made KHK MMA the fastest-growing team in the sport. With a strong purpose and a vision of development starting at the grassroots level, the began to flourish in the amateur scene, with future Bahraini heroes standing out such as young Hussain Ayyad, who won the first medal for Bahrain at an International Mixed Martial Arts Federation competition.

It was then that Al Khalifa realized he could make an even greater impact at the professional level. His vision was to bring the entire sport under one roof, to create a true ecosystem for mixed martial arts, where every talented individual would have the opportunity to thrive, as a fighter, a trainer, a fan or a media member.

Brave CF went from dreams to reality on Al Khalifa's 26th birthday on September 23, 2016 as "Brave 1: Beginning" was held in Isa Town, Bahrain. It was the start of a marvelous adventure, one that would take the name of Bahrain around the world in short three years.

During this period, Brave CF has developed into the number two promotion in the world, providing hundreds of athletes with opportunities to shine at a global stage, and giving fighters from all corners of the planet a chance to become a champion. The promotion has many landmarks to its name, including being the first promotion to host an international show in the continent of Africa, as well as giving the first taste of global MMA in eight countries and in total, it has organized 26 events in 16 different countries in five continents.

Al Khalifa has also successfully transformed the Kingdom of Bahrain into the center of the sport with Brave International Combat Week, the largest combat sports festival in Asia. Every year, more than 500 athletes from more than 60 countries travel to Bahrain to take part in the IMMAF World Championships, dubbed the Olympics of MMA.

It is a success story for Al Khalifa and is indicative of how much more can be achieved with a clear vision and a perfect execution. Here is a message from Brave CF:

Philippines vs Brazil: Can Kevin Belingon knock out Bibiano Fernandes at ‘ONE: Century’ in Japan?

After a disqualification loss at ONE: A NEW ERA, a split decision in November last year, and another loss via submission in 2016, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon is looking for a decisive finish in his match against Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes and reclaim his glory at ONE: CENTURY on 13 October in Japan.

“It is hard to tell how it will end, but I’m looking for a knockout so that all talks will be settled,” Belingon said.

“It’s hard to leave this to the judges because there would be doubts there. I have to get that knockout win.”

In the last bout against the 39-year old Brazilian, Belingon was confident he would be able to defend his title with his powerful strikes. Unfortunately, things went south because of an accidental elbow to the back of Bibiano’s head. In the upcoming fourth bout, Belingon is confident that nothing can stop him from taking back his title.

“More than ever, I am familiar with Bibiano – his style, the way he moves. I already know what to expect and what I’ll do in our fourth match,” he said.

“For our game plan, I’m leaving it to coach Mark Sangiao so I can effectively counter his striking and takedowns.”

Belingon believes that he needs to restore order after his Team Lakay teammates lost their titles in their respective divisions. When he enters the Circle again at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan, he will draw inspiration from Joshua “The Passion” Pacio’s victorious title rematch and use that as his own motivation to succeed.

“This is so important for us. If we get the belt back, I think it will prove that we’re number one in Asia,” said the 31-year-old.

“I am inspired by Joshua because he got his belt back. Now I have to get mine back and bring it home to Baguio.”

Jordan’s Jarrah Al-Selawe vs France’s Abdoul Abdouraguimov at ‘Brave 27’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Former Brave Combat Federation Welterweight World Champion Jarrah “The Jordanian Lion” Al-Selawe, 26, of Jordan makes it hard for anyone to guarantee which martial arts he was first involved in. He is back to his roots in kickboxing as he seeks revenge against reigning Brave CF Welterweight World Champion Abdoul “Sinistro” Abdouraguimov, 23, of France at “Brave 27.”
Brave CF will hold “Brave 27” at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on October 24, 2019. The rematch between Al-Selawe and Abdouraguimov will be the headline.
Al-Selawe first rose to prominence as a pure striker with two knockout victories in his first few professional bouts. After he started to train grappling, however, his style changed and he now has more submission wins to his name than knockouts, proving he’s dangerous everywhere.
On April 19, 2019, Abdouraguimov challenged Al-Selawe, the then reigning Brave CF Welterweight World Champion, at “Brave 23” at the Martyr Rashid Al-Ziyoud Hall Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan. The French-Russian challenger won via split decision.
As the Brave CF’s rematch of the year looms, Al-Selawe has turned his focus back on his kickboxing skills. He guarantees that he will try to knock Abdouraguimov out when they meet again at “Brave 27.”
“You know, last time I felt like I was targeting a decision win,” Al-Selawe stated. “I didn’t pull the trigger. This is a message for Abdoul.”
“For the rematch, I’m going for the knockout,” the Jordanian mixed martial artist continued. “I expect the support of the Arab fans for the event. I’d like everyone in our MMA community to go see my rematch.”
The rematch is just one of the big fights expected for Brave CF’s return to Abu Dhabi. As the promotion makes its third trip to the emirate, the biggest names in Arab MMA history will be in action, such as Anas “The Moroccan Sensation” Siraj Mounir, 33, of Morocco taking on Alex Martinez, 24, of Canada, Tarek Suleiman, 30, of Syria going up against Rustam “Russian Bear” Chsiev, 34, of Russia plus the returns of Mohammad “The Latest” Fakhreddine, 35, of Lebanon and Flavio Serafim, 39, of Brazil.
